欧州中期予報センター、EarthCARE衛星の雲プロファイリングレーダの観測データの利用を開始
European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts begins routine use of observational data from the EarthCARE satellite’s cloud profiling radar

欧州中期予報センター(ECMWF：European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts)は、JAXAと欧州宇宙機関(ESA)の共同ミッション・EarthCARE衛星の雲プロファイリングレーダ(CPR:Clound Profiling Radar)による観測データの利用を開始しました。ECMWFの実験検証を経てCPRデータが予報精度向上に寄与することが確認され、ECMWFの統合予報システム(IFS)に同データを実装、今月10日より定常運用を開始しました。気象予報センターによる雲レーダデータの導入は世界初とのこと。
